“Migrantes” (Migrants)
“Migrantes” (Migrants) is an audiovisual documentary series by Periodismo de Barrio, Cuba’s leading independent media outlet, that explores, through deeply personal stories, the unprecedented wave of emigration Cuba has been experiencing in recent years. The series puts a human face on one of the most significant migration crises in the island’s history. The project is led by Ismario Rodríguez Pérez, a journalist and audiovisual director graduated from the Faculty of Communication at the University of Havana.
About Ismario Rodríguez: Over his career, he has contributed to major Cuban outlets including Granma, Prensa Latina, Cuban Television, and Cubadebate, and has taken part in journalism workshops in the United Kingdom, Germany, and El Salvador. Since 2016, he has been part of the editorial team at Periodismo de Barrio. Ismario Rodríguez has also worked as a photographer and filmmaker in independent cinema with Alma Films Producciones. He is currently based in Brooklyn, New York, where he continues his journalism work as Audiovisual Director for Periodismo de Barrio. Ismario Rodríguez Pérez participated at workshops for journalists from Latin America organised by the taz Panter Foundation between 2015 and 2017.
