Santiago Wild 2026 nomination for “Espejo de Agua”
Liliana Rivas, Venezuelan journalist and producer, has announced that Espejo de Agua (Mirror of Water), a short documentary she produced, has been nominated for Best Short Film in the category Environment: Planet in Crisis category at Santiago Wild 2026 — one of Latin America’s most important nature and wildlife film festivals, organized by Ladera Sur with support from National Geographic and the Jackson Wild International Festival. The nomination recognizes a production born under challenging security conditions, with a small team working both inside and outside Venezuela.
The film combines journalism, science, and indigenous community voices to tell a deeply local story with global resonance, competing alongside productions from around the world. Espejo de Agua is a testimonial short film directed by Gustavo Vera Febres-Cordero, portraying the impact of climate change on the Laguna de Sinamaica and the indigenous Añú people in western Venezuela.
About Liliana Rivas: She participated at the hybrid workshop Amazonien im Fokus — a project organised by the taz Panter Foundation in 2025 capacitating and bringing together journalists from eight Amazonian countries ahead of COP30.
